O projecto IN.TRANSIT é um espaço independente para a divulgação de projectos artísticos no Edifício Artes em Partes, situado na Rua Miguel Bombarda, no Porto, comissariado por Paulo Mendes.
IN.TRANSIT iniciou a sua actividade em 2002 dando continuidade ao trabalho de programação iniciado em 1999 com o projecto W.C. CONTAINER naquele mesmo edifício que durante três anos e dezassete exposições apresentou trabalhos de quarenta e nove criadores de diversas áreas.
Da programação apresentada podem-se referir nomes como: Pedro Cabral Santo, Cristina Mateus, Leonor Antunes, Miguel Palma, Ângelo Ferreira de Sousa, João Pedro Vale, Pedro Tudela, Alice Geirinhas, Francisco Queirós, Pedro Amaral, Emídio Buchinho, Fernando Brito, Susana Mendes Silva, Alexandre Estrela, Liliana Coutinho, José Eduardo Rocha, Pedro Gadanho, Miguel Soares, João Paulo Feliciano, Alexandre Camarão, Inês Pais, Miguel Leal, Paulo Castro, João Fonte Santa, Gonçalo Falcão, Vasco Araújo, António Rego, Didier Fiuza Faustino, Miguel Vieira Batista, Filipa César, entre muitos outros.Este projecto teve início em Janeiro de 1999 tendo terminado em Dezembro de 2001.
Em Junho de 2002 iniciou-se o IN.TRANSIT que em mais de 30 exposições já realizadas apresentou, entre outros, trabalhos de: João Maria Gusmão + Pedro Almeida Paiva, Miguel Soares, Martinha Maia, André Lemos, António Lago, Daniel Barroca, Eduardo Matos, Jim Avignon, António Caramelo + Fernando Ribeiro, Miguel Carneiro, Nuno Valério, João Pedro Vale, Manuel Santos Maia, André Alves, João Tabarra, Cláudia Ulisses, Nuno Ramalho + Renato Ferrão, Marco Mendes, Luís Alegre, Carla Filipe, João Marçal, Miguel Ângelo Rocha, Vítor Reis, Maria Papadimitriou, João Ribeiro + José Filipe Costa, Arlindo Silva, Bento Duarte, Fernando Brízio, André Cepeda, Alexandre Estrela, Fernando José Pereira, Diana Andringa, Gustavo Sumpta ou António Olaio.
O IN.TRANSIT ocupa um espaço aparentemente convencional, semelhante ao cubo branco de uma galeria mas pode ser entendido como uma zona laboratorial aberta a criadores e ideias que normalmente não entram em programações conservadoras. Pretende-se com esta programação contrariar exactamente a apresentação de obras mais institucionais e académicas usualmente apresentadas em locais que tem outros compromissos de ordem económica e estética.
As obras apresentadas no IN.TRANSIT foram sempre peças inéditas, concebidas e desenvolvidas especificamente para este espaço expositivo, onde os autores podem testar novos tipos de trabalho através dos desafios propostos, ao nível conceptual, de parcerias de trabalho ou de apresentações site-specific, cruzando várias disciplinas como a performance, a arquitectura, a música, o design, a moda ou o vídeo.O projecto IN.TRANSIT + W.C.CONTAINER que no seu conjunto já apresentou mais de 50 exposições e cerca de 120 artistas, pretende continuar a contribuir para a discussão sobre os programas e os contextos da arte contemporânea como tem acontecido através da sua programação regular desde 1999.

"Pretense or artifice simply raises the stakes to such a level that it activates what is perhaps dangerous or unstable about that relationship to begin with. So I feel that that’s a deeper human issue of empathy- a kind of innate sense of or capacity for empathy that one person feels for the other- that a dramatic situation elevates.
